International Arbitration
We advise and represent our clients in international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration and sports arbitration. Our team has vast experience in representing clients in arbitral proceedings under the rules of the main international arbitration institutions, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport – CAS, the International Chamber of Commerce – ICC, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes – ICSID, the London Court of International Arbitration – LCIA, the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and its international arm (ICDR), as well as in “ad hoc” arbitrations under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. ADR
We advise and represent our clients in Alternative Dispute Resolution – ADR mechanisms. Our experience includes mediation, fact-finding, expert determination and Documentary Instruments Dispute Resolution Expertise – DOCDEX under the ICC Rules.
Recognition and Enforcement of Arbitral Awards and Court Decisions
We have extensive experience and know-how in obtaining the recognition of foreign and domestic arbitral awards and judicial court decisions in several jurisdictions.
We also provide services related to the enforcement of those awards and decisions before state courts. We work closely with experts in international tracing of assets and assist clients in securing attachment orders and other judicial orders aimed at securing the creditors’ rights.
Third-Party Funding
We have expertise and an extensive range of international contacts in the third-party funding industry that the clients can benefit from, and we also have been able to secure funding for clients with strong claims.
Oil and Gas – Investment – Construction Disputes
We benefit from stellar reputation of our members in the energy sector, particularly in relation to oil and gas transactions / projects and offshore services, and from the expertise in advising oil and gas companies in connection with disputes and issues relating to the various types of concession agreements (e.g. PSCs, JOAs, unitization) and in advising national government entities and on international investment treaty claims. Victoria Associates also has expertise and experience in construction arbitration and disputes and our member are able to advise on commercial, industrial, energy, engineering schemes and infrastructure projects and related issues.
Insurance – Reinsurance
The members of Victoria Associates have expertise and experience in insurance, marine insurance, reinsurance. Victoria Associates is advising clients on matters including regulatory and compliance, drafting policy, treaty wordings, marine insurance claims, offshore and international insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution.
Shipping
Victoria Associates has expertise in shipping law and regularly advises on the transactional aspects of shipping. In dispute resolution, we have experience in shipping and commercial arbitration, including shipbuilding contract disputes, the negotiation of contracts and various cross-border shipping arbitration matters. Cartel damage & Private enforcement
Victoria Associates members are experienced in matters and disputes related to the private enforcement under Articles 101 and 102 TFEU and the Portuguese Private Enforcement Law. This area of expertise includes the prosecution of class actions, cartel damage cases, and other civil liability disputes all arising out of the violation of competition (antitrust) law.

Our Portuguese team is a market leader in domestic disputes (litigation and arbitration) and highly qualified in various practice areas of law. We also handle international arbitrations related to Portugal and other Portuguese speaking countries. We assist and represent clients in international and domestic arbitrations in Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Macau, Cape Verde, São Tomé e Príncipe, and Guiné-Bissau, countries for which Portuguese Law is the primary source. We have close contacts and associations with local firms to assist our clients in any dispute relating to one of these countries.
We act as expert witnesses on the law of these countries, and support non-Portuguese law firms acting in arbitrations relating to these countries. On the other hand, we also represent clients from Portugal and other Portuguese speaking countries in disputes subject to laws other than their own laws.
